Because of the highly expansive clay compositions "Houston Black Soils"
are recognized by geologists around the world as the classic Vertisols,
which shrink and swell markedly with our ever changing moisture content.
These soils formed under prairie vegetation and in calcareous clays &
marls, when water intrudes on the soils moisture content it absorbs slowly
if the soil condition content is high and rapidly when the soil moisture
content is low.
Houston Black Soils are used extensively for grain sorghum, cotton, corn,
small grain and forage grasses. They also occur in several Metropolitan
areas, where their very high shrink-swell potential commonly is a
limitation affecting building site development.
For these reasons our patios, slabs, driveways and foundations are
structurally engineered to compensate for the soil instability of the region.
Each Concrete Project whether large or small is excavated, sub granular
non-expansive base installed and machine compacted to bring the soil
bearing content to a minimum 95% soil compaction uniform density and
thickness, All deleterious material is removed prior to the placement of
our patent pending steel "geo-grid"© stamped concrete
reinforcementdesigned strictly for use in these soil design parameters.
